Jessica Jones
Jessica Jones asked Laurell K. Hamilton:

Will the new series of Merry (which I have read at least a dozen times and live for) translate to our current political, economic and racial climate?. I've always pictured Darkness as African although I know he is meant to be a shadowy jet dark. There is something about the light and darkness that has become the norm. Anyways fingers crossed.. I can't wait for more.. I love your work! Nightseer, Anita read them all:)

Laurell K. Hamilton I admit when I started the Meredith Gentry books I hadn't thought about real world politics or racial climate, but a few years ago I did realize that if the Merry books came to TV or movies that Doyle, the Queen's Darkness, would have to be cast as someone of African descent. Doyle was one of the few characters that I actually had found someone I thought could play him. I'd seen Chadwick Boseman in several movies and loved his performances. This was a few years before he was cast as, Black Panther. I loved his performance in the movie, but thought, now he's too big a star, he won't do another franchise. I, like most of his fans, had no idea that he was so ill even while he was filming the movie. So sad that he passed away, but somehow wore that he was still so young.
