Just finished Physicians of Vilnoc again. Pen often rids his local area of as many biting insects as possible. I wonder about the law of unintended consequences. Do you suppose there would be follow-on effects on the rest of the ecosystem with the removal of the flies, etc?
Lois McMaster Bujold
Nothing gets rid of flies, especially in a world of abundant animal manure. Trust me (and Mark Twain) on this point. And our world has been going after mosquitoes for decades with every tool imaginable, with very little impact. I really don't think a handful of sorcerers are going to make a dent in these very resilient species.
Actually, sorcery ought to be more eco-friendly than our insecticides, since it can be directed to the single biting disease-bearing pest, and leave everything else untouched.

I just reread "Diplomatic Immunity" for the umpteenth time and wondered if you ever had any plans to write a story about what the Cetagandan Star Crèche might have ended up doing with Miles' blood sample/genome? The first time I read it back in 2002 I hoped they would somehow be able to use it to make his body much better.

In Shards of Honor, what was the role of the chief surgeon as the second agent in Emperor Ezar’s plan? Surely not just to corroborate Aral’s opportunistic explanation to Illyan of obtaining the Plasma Mirror information from Cordelia under interrogation drugs too late to help or cancel the invasion (Cordelia’s capture could not have been foreseen). Something to do with the Prince?

Part 1 of another couple of questions from me … split into two because of the space limitation. Up to the end of CVA, there are a few hints that Alys and Simon *might* consider getting married at some point. I would love to know more about what they are thinking. Also, other characters speculate about them using the replicator to have biological kid(s) of their own, but Simon and Alys never seem to mention it?
