Did anyone else feel a confusion over Ann and Finn's relationship? I felt like it was too shallow and there was not enough depth describing it. I kept waiting for the author to show Ann's real emotions over the tragedy at some point, like there would be something more to it, to her motherly grief, but it felt very fleeting and not deep.

did ann really love finn? did she resent finn? she wasn't talking to finn before the crash because finn had fender-bendered her beloved BMW. do you think ann felt guilt over the silent treatment she gave her kid? why did she throw finn's phone? i didn't understand her emotions and reactions. throwing all of finn's things out the window and into the trash right after she died -- that was so mean it seemed like. she seemed to feel more guilt over not saying goodbye to oz. and what kind of mother treats her kid like she treated oz his whole life -- not looking at him or spending time with him. he was a handful but still, where was the motherly compassion for things he couldn't control? i'm glad i had a different type of mother.

I think the book really highlights that sometimes after these events, people don't change, while some people do. I think Ann has a lawyer brain, has probably always had a lawyer brain, and compartmentalizes in order to do what she needs to do. It's shown in different parts where Ann breaks down, alone, but she's not the type to outwardly process and express her feelings to others. Just like what saved them in the crash, the "don't dwell and do what needs to be done" attitude is there from start to finish. As a highly emotional person, it is hard for me to understand that, but I also definitely know people like that, and an event like this probably wouldn't change them either. I will say that Ann will probably definitely need therapy at some point, lol.

I believe that Ann didn’t have anyone to talk to after the accident after the fallout with Karen. She just zoned out until Bob became along to comfort her. He was a predator!

Agree 100%. That always bothered me and made me sad
