Did Liz ring true for you, specifically her unconditional love towards Eva?

Ed Bernard Y'know, I enjoyed this book a great deal, but I'm not sure any of the characters were fully three-dimensional. I think they all had their core traits overplayed a bit (Liz: loving mother-type svengali, Eva: self-hating amoralist, etc.) but that didn't detract from it for me. It IS interesting how the "men are awful" theme pervaded the book, but that happens IRL too. But it's a thriller first and foremost and I felt all the characters were interesting enough on that level. If this was intended as penetrating literary character study, it might fall short, but for a twisty thriller, they all got the job done, IMO.
Anne Fox I dont know.... she seemed to be just a kind older neighbor wishing her daughter would be around her more so Eva fit right into those shoes...
Carol I kept waiting for something to happen with Liz -- like she was really sent by Rory or something. I think their friendship was ok, but seemed a bit overdramatic to me.

Mary Anthony Yes. I am a mother of adult children. I tend to "mother" and care deeply about young women I have met who are clearly lonely and possibly struggling. I believe she is an empath with a strong maternal instinct.
Diego D'Oliveira Liz was the personification of what a "mother figure" looks like, specially to someone like Eva who, never had that.
Leah She did, in my opinion. I have known a couple women who are quite a bit like Liz. Especially because she is a teacher - many teachers seem to have that uber-nurturing quality.
Patricia Keefe Yes, she did. She was what Eva thought that her mother or grandmother would have been in her romantic notion of what if. Liz was a very charing person and made Eva realize she was loveable.
I did find the plot twist interesting, another of the may twists and turns, when Danielle, Claire's personal assistant, was Liz's daughter and Eva overhearing their conversation really made the book happen. It turned out it was not by chance they met at the airport. Eva knew Claire was trying to disappear and she sought her out and did not run into her by chance.
I agree with Jacqueline that it would have been sadder that when Eva finally found someone who truly loved her for who she was even though Eva wasn't telling Liz the truth about her life, she was almost snuffed out by Fish.

Rose No, Liz seemed over the top to me. I can’t see her being so ‘unconditionally loving’ in such a short time, especially with someone who is used to pushing people away.
