I think they all had their core traits overplayed a bit (Liz: loving mother-type svengali, Eva: self-hating amoralist, etc.) but that didn't detract from it for me. It IS interesting how the "men are awful" theme pervaded the book, but that happens IRL too. But it's a thriller first and foremost and I felt all the characters were interesting enough on that level. If this was intended as penetrating literary character study, it might fall short, but for a twisty thriller, they all got the job done, IMO.(less)
