They have a lot in common, in that both forms, for me, require extensive research so that I understand the world I'm writing about. Yes, I can invent more freely in fiction than in nonfiction, but all literary writing requires sympathetic imagination--projecting yourself into the minds and hearts of your characters. The rules are different but the skills are similar.

You've won a Pulitzer Prize, but you've also lost after being nominated for a National Book Award for "Going Clear." How do you handle losing an award of that stature? Do you quietly seethe every time you see a reference to the book that won the award in that category instead of your book? (I do. You're too polite and diplomatic to say it, but your book was better.) Thanks for your outstanding work.

How did you feel about the TV adaptation of The Looming Tower on Hulu . I felt they focused only on the human drama and left out so much that for the first time made me understand the conflict in Middle East and could be so helpful to everyone in us ..do you feel there is another vehicle for this book a PBS documentary perhaps ?
