Kk asked Lawrence Wright:

How did your experience with fiction differ from your nonfiction works?

Lawrence Wright They have a lot in common, in that both forms, for me, require extensive research so that I understand the world I'm writing about. Yes, I can invent more freely in fiction than in nonfiction, but all literary writing requires sympathetic imagination--projecting yourself into the minds and hearts of your characters. The rules are different but the skills are similar.
