Emily I have fifth graders who are reading at middle school/high school levels, and I let them read it as long as they can carry on a mature conversation ab…moreI have fifth graders who are reading at middle school/high school levels, and I let them read it as long as they can carry on a mature conversation about some of the themes and events of the books such as genocide, murder, suicide, deciding when to first have sex, etc. If/when parents encourage their kids to think and talk openly or ask questions about these more adult realities of life, my upper readers do fine with the series.(less)
