There are many different approaches to this. For me, I like to go back to an earlier chapter in the book on which I'm working, and spend some time critically proof-reading and polishing the writing. Focusing on details like the flow of my writing helps me re-immerse myself into the novel's world. That, in turn, helps me clear away distractions and determine the way in which the story will evolve.

Andreas, No question...just a comment. I've written a review of your book that will appear on my blog May 29. Excellent job...and it was nice to see some decent scientific extrapolation again. OK, one question: Why wouldn't the good ETs design the stargates so they were von Neumann machines that reproduce themselves and populate the different star systems? Just a thought.... Mr. Kapf, I just wanted to comment on "Prelude to Extinction." I'm 74 years old and have been reading science fiction since I read a short story called "The "Barnhouse Effect" when I was in high school. I was looking for some new hard science fiction and saw your book on amazon. It was excellent! Great story line, good science, well fleshed-out characters, a "page turner." Am awaiting you next offering. (?)
