Deb I think it tells you something about the character of Tip and Teddy's mother. She gave them up so they would have a better life and years later she gave up her dreams to take care of her friend's daughter (Kenya). I didn't quite see how she could so easily take over Tennessee's identity. But maybe that is part of the point that our social work system is not as careful with African American children-as was the case when Kenya stayed with Doyle and his family after her mother's accident. Social services should not have allowed her to leave the hospital with strangers (as Doyle tried to tell his son's).
Jan And, if they found a picture of her with Tennessee, and blew it up, and put it next to the statue, why didn’t anyone notice the resemblance between her and Tip and Teddy?
But, I loved this book anyway.
D. I believe you hit it, Deb. The biological mother was a strong, giving woman, that's one of the points. I am also surprised to learn from Goodreads that the author, Patchett, is a child of Jeanne Ray. She (Ray) wrote the wonderful fiction, Julie and Romeo, set in the Boston area, not far from Run. Ray also created an even funnier book, Step Ball Change. Try these for more lighthearted reading.......
