I was a huge fan of Lisa Scottoline's book, KEEP QUIET. It was suspenseful but didn't have gore or anything extreme. But this one looks different. Super-dark and almost Picoult-esque. Does this read like a Jodi Picoult novel? Jodi Picoult is talented, but I find her books emotionally exhausting to read. It's both a pro and a con. I'm just wondering if that's what I'd be getting into by picking up AFTER ANNA.

Steph Lamm She tries to put in a lot of twists towards the end, but they aren't at all emotionally exhausting because the characters and plot aren't developed enough for the reader to be that "attached" to the story. Disappointing.
Marion Coro I read a statement by Scottoline (maybe a preface in one of her previous novels) thanking Picoult for helping her find her "voice". This is not verbatim, but that was the gist. If this is the voice Picoult helped her find, I wish it had remained stifled. Scottoline used to write fun, engaging novels featuring smart, independent women. I am not a fan of Picoult's and the things I dislike about her were definitely part of this book. First, the gushiness. The conversations between mother and daughter could double for Ipecac. Also, everything is instantly perfect between them. Highly unrealistic.
Gina Gilbert I agree, the end was unbelievable and rushed, disappointing.
Denise I liked this book - up until the last 2 or 3 chapters. I found the ending to be over the top, unbelievable and just a "bad fit". For some reason, I find her books to be hit or miss for me - for this very reason. A lot of undeveloped characters and plot twists that are not believable.
Eileen Acosta I didn't think it seemed like a Jodi Picoult book at all. It more reminded me of a B.A. Paris or a Mary Kubica. Picoult books are deeper, more heart-wrenching, more fleshed out, IMO.
Jodi Kauble I didn’t think it was super dark but I haven’t read her other books.
Stacy Hi! If you like Picoult, you will like this. It’s less emotionally exhausting, but with certain elements of Picoult that you will probably enjoy. I also love all of the local flavor that Scottoline adds to her books, plus she is a very funny and kind person, which I think comes through in her writing.
