I was a huge fan of Lisa Scottoline's book, KEEP QUIET. It was suspenseful but didn't have gore or anything extreme. But this one looks different. Super-dark and almost Picoult-esque. Does this read like a Jodi Picoult novel? Jodi Picoult is talented, but I find her books emotionally exhausting to read. It's both a pro and a con. I'm just wondering if that's what I'd be getting into by picking up AFTER ANNA.

If this is the voice Picoult helped her find, I wish it had remained stifled. Scottoline used to write fun, engaging novels featuring smart, independent women. I am not a fan of Picoult's and the things I dislike about her were definitely part of this book. First, the gushiness. The conversations between mother and daughter could double for Ipecac. Also, everything is instantly perfect between them. Highly unrealistic.(less)
