Why is his name Fiske? It means fishing in Danish.... I hate it when authors do this,,, because when I read it in English and suddenly there is a danish word it just throws me off and it contributes to me liking the book less... it sucks, cuz this sounds awesome!!!

Commoners never really had last names until recently, and most last names derive from job titles. Sam the Fisher turns into Sam Fisher. Only the wealthy land owners had last names to mark heritage and lineage for land disputes. Adrienne Young acknowledges the names meaning and origin. Fiske's name was chosen with purpose ;)(less)

Julie Guys, I believe what's bothering us Scandinavians, is that "Fiske" means "to fish", whereas "Fisker" would be the equivalent of "Fisher". ...more
