asked:
Should I read this book? The first three are my favorite books ever and I want nothing more than to have fifty more red rising books until the end of time. But I love Darrow, and from the reviews I've seen it looks like he goes down a dark path in this book and I don't want that to ruin the experience of the other books for me. Please give me some advice.

I feel 100% the same way as you. I'm currently halfway through the book and Darrow does go down a dark path. But Pierce Brown has always written Darrow starting at a low and then building him up. I hope that'll it'll be like that. I don't think he'll let his hero stay down a dark path.
Remember, this is going to be another trilogy so there is hope for the world. It's no longer about Darrow anymore. I don't love some of the other point of views but you do get more of a sense of what this 10 year war has done to them.

Absolutely not! This was a major disappointment after loving the first 3. I almost never abandon a book before finishing, but this was so painfully boring that I had no choice. I had even taken a break from it to read something else, with the hope I'd be more receptive to it later, but it found it just as awful when I returned to it. It's never a good sign when an author attempts to resurrect a completed trilogy. It often means they've run out of fresh ideas, so desperately attempt to rehash their old ones.

I thought it was amazing book... read in 2 days couldn't put it down... definitely setting up big things for this next trilogy... you won't be disappointed if you like the original trilogy

I loved the first 3 books. But this book was a disappointment to me in so many ways. I would never read it again. Maybe book 5 but not for sure

I have just finished Iron Gold, and to be honest, was not too thrilled with it; gave it three stars. The book is really a set up to what is going to be happening in the next two books of the new trilogy and there are really no climatic points in this rather big volume. The story lines are not as intense as those in the first trilogy, and characters are not evolving outside their expected behavior. The Morning Star should have been a logical end of everything in that universe...

Loved it. Like most others I felt like this story was complete, and I wasn't sure if I was going to read book 4, but I gave it a go, and couldn't put it down. New characters are gripping, old ones grow and move on. Really looking forward to book 5.

to be honest, i was both excited and apprehensive about a continuation of the world of the first trilogy. and this book was loooooong, but in the end, i decided i did really like it. it's not the same focus (and tight focus) as the first trilogy (how could it be?) since it's 10 years on but i think it addresses the present in that world well. i'm looking forward to the continuation of this series.
