A Goodreads user
asked:
what reading level would this book be... my 3rd grader is loving reading this... some tricky words but we can't find the reading level "letter" on any of the sites I'd normally check - thanks in advance?

Why do you care what the reading level is? A child should read whatever interests him. Reading levels are so arbitrary. There is no science to leveling a book. All leveling does is limit reading.

A library catalog lists it as a 590 Lexile which this site puts around 3rd grade. http://library.austintexas.libanswers...

I have just read 3 contenders for the Newbery and they are ALL about 12-yo-something girls coming of age -- so I am grateful for the this book. IMO, any age can enjoy this book - like The Tale of Despereaux, The Giving Tree, or some of the past winners - books written with younger characters and for younger readers - are books that can be enjoyed by any group.

I'd like to know the reading level of this book also.

I agree that a child should read whatever piques their interest. That being said, this is a great book for kids from 3rd-7th grades.

If she's enjoying it, it's at her reading level. All you need to do is make yourself available for questions. That's why I've always been a prolific reader. :)

Read for joy, for learning, for companionship, for entertainment, for enlightenment. Don't worry about "levels".
