As other posters have mentioned, there are instances of peril and violence, combat and death, mentions of sex (like, as in a thing people have occasionally, nothing explicit). It's not a very difficult book, maybe give it a try yourself and then decide if you're kid should read it? For what it's worth, I would have read this at eleven and been fine, but all kids handle material differently--it truly depends on the child.(less)
