Goodreads asked Phyllis Moore:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Phyllis Moore Minnesota winter inspired People of Akiane Trilogy. I'm originally from Southern Louisiana winters there are very different from Minnesota winters.

During Louisiana winters it rains and rains and yes, it rains. It might reach 32F for a day or two. In February, it snows once every ten years.

In Minnesota, it’s not unusual to reach -30F with wind chill of -60F for two weeks at a time. It not unusual to have 90 inches of snow per winter season.

On my world, the planet Akiane is in the Pegasus Constellation. Winter lasts for six years. It’s so cold that expect for a small stretch of water along the equator, the ocean surface around the world freezes. The colony lives in a habitat. They dress in winter fur suites and eat fish that helps them endure the extreme cold of six years of winter.

My alien planet and Earth have been out of contact with each other for 300 years. Lt. Jessica M. Hewitt has been ordered to reunite the two worlds. But first, she must deal with her own insecurities and her belief in God.
