Goodreads asked Bryan David Falchuk:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Bryan David Falchuk I've been living the idea for my book for a long time now, but the idea to write the book came from a call I had with someone who has been a mentor to me. We were talking about a long term vision I had for something big I want to do, and he challenged me to work backward to see what I need to do to make that vision a reality. I took the challenge with me into my sleep, and when I woke up, I went for a run along the Pacific Ocean (I was in San Francisco for work), and the book idea became so clear to me. I actually structured the book on the run, thinking of the various chapters I'd write, what I wanted to say in them, and how this would all combined to drive me toward that big vision.

As soon as I got back to my hotel from my run, I showered, packed, went to the airport, and started writing as soon as I got settled at the gate for my flight. I kept writing through my flight, and had about 20% of the book done, plus the outline for the rest of it.
