What an interesting question. I'm not a big fiction reader, so it's tough to answer. I love the Odd Thomas series, but I definitely wouldn't want to be in Pico Mundo or anywhere Odd goes...too dangerous, spooky and end-of-the-world-ish.
I've really been focusing my reading on Buddhism lately as it's really the root of the philosophy I teach in my book, "Do a Day", so I think I would choose to go back to the days of Buddha and learn from him directly. I can't think of anything else worth going away from my life in the here and now other than something that would so dramatically impact my ability to be in the here and now when I return.

I've been living the idea for my book for a long time now, but the idea to write the book came from a call I had with someone who has been a mentor to me. We were talking about a long term vision I had for something big I want to do, and he challenged me to work backward to see what I need to do to make that vision a reality. I took the challenge with me into my sleep, and when I woke up, I went for a run along the Pacific Ocean (I was in San Francisco for work), and the book idea became so clear to me. I actually structured the book on the run, thinking of the various chapters I'd write, what I wanted to say in them, and how this would all combined to drive me toward that big vision.
As soon as I got back to my hotel from my run, I showered, packed, went to the airport, and started writing as soon as I got settled at the gate for my flight. I kept writing through my flight, and had about 20% of the book done, plus the outline for the rest of it.

I've been coaching and mentoring people for years using the Do a Day approach. I get such an amazing charge out of seeing people get enlightened and transform. And yet I always feel constrained by my schedule and location to help as many people as I want to help. That empowering feeling of helping plus the constraints of being one person added together to equal writing a book. It's one great way I can share and inspire without any major constraints.

Right now, I'm mostly focused on promoting my book as it's only a few months old. I'm also about to start my weekly column for Inc Magazine's website.
I do have a plan for my next book. "Do a Day" shares my story as a way to teach the philosophy of Do a Day. The next book will be a sequel that shares the stories of others - my readers, people I coach, etc - to give even more examples of how the approach can inspire you to overcome and achieve. I'm really excited to help other people share their stories with the world!

Just write.
I've been coaching another author who has been very caught up in getting it right from the start. The thing about writing is that you never get it right from the start - or even sometimes at the end! Writing is an evolution that can always keep changing and being influenced by advice and views. Release yourself from that pressure, let your thoughts come out, and then relish the process to evolve it through edits and drafts.

Sharing. The reason I wrote my book is help as many people as possible. Writing is such a fantastic medium to share my thoughts with people, so I consider myself blessed to have the opportunity to do that through my book.

I am lucky in that I never really faced it. The reason was pretty simple - I wrote from my beliefs. When you write from what you know, the thoughts come out freely. I believe in writing this way - share what you believe, and worry about editing after getting the words out.
Write what you feel. Feelings don't have writer's block, so neither will your words if you write from your feelings.
