Amy asked this question about Sometimes I Lie:
I have read this book and re-read it twice, am i missing the big twist at the end? I don't understand the ending at all or seem to be picking up on this shocking twist everybody is talking about. Its driving me crazy! Can anybody shed some light?

The list at the beginning of the book:
1. I’m in a coma
2. My husband doesn’t love me anymore
3. Sometimes I lie
follows the trend of two truths and one lie as we know that Amber was definitely in a coma and was an unreliable narrator and pathological liar (so was Claire) but we find out her husband does still love her. So we can assume the final list:
1. I was in a coma
2. My sister died in a tragic accident
3. Sometimes I lot
follows the same pattern. We know one and three to be a true. But for number two to be a lie Claire doesn’t have to be alive… Amber killed Claire (and David) so her death can’t really be considered a “tragic accident”.

I think the only outstanding question is that of the bracelet, who left it or whether it was even there to begin with. I don’t believe that Claire is alive there is absolutely nothing that points to this theory nor would it add to the book in any way. I don’t belted Paul is responsible although I don’t doubt that he read the diaries (who could help themselves when it was the source of so much tension between the “sisters”) and knows everything that has happened in the past. However, he wouldn’t gain anything from planting the bracelet so it seems unreasonable to assume it was him. I also have no idea what this anniversary he refers to is? I don’t believe Edward left the bracelet and I think if he were alive Amber would still be living in fear so we can assume he died in the “suntanning accident”. However, I am a little confused by his inclusion in the book, I didn’t feel that he added anything extra to the book. His abuse of Amber contributed little to the ending of the book and if anything blurred the lines of a few other plot lines however this may have been Alice Feeney’s intention. Based upon Ambers consistently loss of time and tendency to disproportionate minor details I think the most likely explanation for the bracelet is that it was never there at all, what Amber saw was simply the gold foil from the champagne bottle that her mind conjured into a relic of her past because no matter how hard she tries she will never be able to out run her past.

All in all I loved the book and all its twists and turns. Would definitely recommend!(less)

Lisa Galaviz I like the champagne foil idea. I’m going with that one.
