I do believe that Claire was off her rocker and genuinely would blackmail Amber out of "love" in order to keep her in her life. I also believe Amber was truly a victim overall. She did bad things, most of which were put in motion by Claire, but was mostly at the mercy of her frail mind due to what Claire did as a child, and eventually her coma and what Edward did to her. I believe the "Taylor told me to do it" was the beginning of Claire's blackmail. If anyone ever found those journals, all fingers would point to Amber from just that one line, despite all other entries suggesting that Claire was fully responsible. It snowballed from there.

As for the ending...I think there are two possibilities. One -- it's Edward, somehow having acquired the bracelet and knowing good and well how it would frazzle Amber. Two -- Claire is still alive. We don't really know what happened to Claire. Last we hear of her is Amber noting that she is still breathing and her eyes are open. We never hear about the bodies, though Madeleine being charged for murder suggests at least one body was found. It's possible that only David died and it was assumed Claire did as well, though maybe she was able to leave enough of herself behind (DNA, clothing) to suggest she did in fact die. So why not claim her children? Because Amber is in control now. She's shown what she is capable of and now Claire is having to get creative. So she leaves the bracelet that she is still there, but distanced.

They're two sides of the same coin now. Two peas in a pod. Both capable of being the victim and villain.

"People think that good and bad are opposites, but they're wrong. They're just a mirror image of one another in broken glass."(less)

I believe that she wrote the entires in the perspective of who she wanted to be and what she wished her life could be, what i mean by this is. Amber Taylor is actually the girl who has the abusive parents and Claire is the one with the loving parents. But when she writes in her diary she imagines herself in Claire’s shoes and Claire in hers. She mentally switch roles. So when the diary is read it’s as if it was “written” by Claire. Because she so badly wanted the life she lived, she imagined herself “Taylor” as the fortunate one and “Claire” as the unfortunate. Taylor mentioned when their parents passed they didn’t save much of anything from her childhood, but they saved a ton for Claire. Again, i believe that’s because Claire was their biological child and Taylor was the adopted child who burnt down her parents house. The entry she tore out the book that said “Taylor told me to” was actually her literally telling herself to do it. And again in her diary she’s not who she portrays her self to be. There’s so many subtle details that leads me to believe that this is the case, The parents leaving Claire the childhood home, the envy Taylor had for Claire all her life, that’s why she killed her and took her kids. Also, there was a few times that it was said for Taylor to stop lying. This woman believed in her lie for so long that it became her reality. (less)

The 'Happy Anniversary' was in Spring of 2017. They got the dog between Jan and Feb of 2017. They got the kids between Feb and Spring of 2017. The anniversary of when they first made love is inconsequential, and the author wouldn't have thrown it in in the last chapter for no reason.

While I liked the story, I feel manipulated by the author. I love a good a twist, but a bad one is very bad. The bracelet at the end, isn't a twist, it's just a piece that doesn't fit the puzzle. It ruined the book for me because I'm certain the author has no idea what it means either. Where oh where was her editor? Probably signing a movie deal because this is just the kind of crap you see on the big screen.(less)
