Birgitt Krumboeck
asked:
I think it would have been a bit more difficult to get a visa for the US nowadays. Perhaps because the author is an American citizen, he did not realize this? ;0)

Netherlands is part of the Visa Waiver Program, so the Dutch citizens travelling to the US require an ESTA. This is an electronic application which can be done online in no time. A non US citizen cannot use the electronic gates for a start and also required to give fingerprints of all 5 fingers and the thumb has to match with the one in the passport.
So, long story short this is entirely wrong and I just don't understand how the author didn't check this first...
The Dutch guy could have easily requested a quick ESTA visa online for Corbin. It is also possible that the Dutch guy had a valid ESTA, in case he travelled to the US in the past 2 years. Also, if he had an older passport with no fingerprints in it yet, then it could have worked. Definitely NO electronic gates though...
Lousy work, sorry. It only needed two extra lines to make it plausible.

Are we talking about Kate or Bram? When he was posing as Bram he was "visiting" and wouldn't need a visa to come to the US. As for Kate, she may have been able to quickly get a US student visa, having a family member in the US? I also assumed because when she speaks to the police she references the swap first being mentioned in late Feb or early March, which makes me think it is at least April before she comes to the US. That still doesn't mean she could have gotten it in that time, but when I tried to research it, some of the websites I found said student visas process the quickest and can often take a few days to a few weeks.

If you asked me a year ago, I would ask you not to touch on a painful topic for me, because then I could not go on a business trip because of the very long visa application process. But, recently I found the site tnvisaexpert.com which describes in detail the process of obtaining a TN visa. This time I was lucky because these guys complete everything as quickly as possible and do almost all the work for you

Hmm, I wondered the same thing, how convenient that he found a suitable candidate having a US visa. Or don't the Dutch need visa to travel to US?
