Changing my vote to "The Importance of Being Ernest" is in no way to indicate that I don't hope we will one day consider Balzac (and Zola) again. I just wanted to emphasize an interest in adding plays to the genres we consider and, since such minimal interest in further French writers at this time is expressed, I decided to make the switch. (I also am interested in Trollope at some time in the future -- or Vanity Fair, which I have read.) I have, however, no objections to the choice being made; I am just not sure I am going to commit to participating right now, but may rather tackle some of the other books waiting for attention. I shall, though, probably follow the discussion.

You may be interested in noting that The Victorians board is also concentrating on mysteries in July with interest in moving on to Sherlock Holmes. They will start with Edgar Allen Poe.
To expand on what Lily has said, we have not decided definitively on the July read in Victorians, but it does look at the present like we will be starting the month with the three Dupin detective stories by Poe and then following them with Holmes, in order to see the influence that Poe had on Conan Doyle. I expect that we will be voting on which Holmes we will read; the ones that seem to have been suggested the most so far are Study in Scarlet and The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes.
