I reserve the right to change my vote to Historical fiction at the last moment if Satire is losing too badly :)

I could not read Hitchhikers Guide. I to reserve the right to change my vote to historical fiction if horror doesn't win. :)
We aren't going to juggle votes after the poll so just check back in on the 16th if you guys want to switcheroo.

I loved this book when I was in Middle School. Of course, I haven't read it since then, but still. :) Plus, there are other books in satire that you could read.

Gertie, I will read whichever genre wins. I am sure Chip could find me an appropriate Satire to read. I could find him a good horror novel to read.
Chip: I tried. I really tried to like it, to get into it. I got about 3/4 of the way through and just gave up. It was like a bad date. We just did not click. :)
Aww Jennifer, I think we are losing out here! Maybe we can buddy up with each other so we're kind about choosing a satire, lol.

Shelves seem to be as close as GR gets to keywords (aside from title and author in a search, that is). It sure would be nice to be able to tag stuff though.

There are the Listopia things....I check them out from time to time. There must be a Horror one. Horror anyone?? anyone??
I actually thought that being purchased by Amazon might lead to some UI improvements, but no. ((Though I LOVE that we can now import our Amazon book purchases.) As much as I love Goodreads, it seems to be pretty stagnant in terms of improvements.
Satire is winning. :( C'mon people vote for horror. Where are the usual suspect for the buddy challenge?? People hello!! don't be scared. Gertie maybe we can find horror/satire??
Jennifer wrote: "Satire is winning. :( C'mon people vote for horror. Where are the usual suspect for the buddy challenge?? People hello!! don't be scared. Gertie maybe we can find horror/satire??"Haha! I bet it exists. But I wohld hate to ruin a good horror plot with humor - would rather just go straight to plain old satire.
Maybe we will just suffer through this time (or not as you might to want to participate) and then do horror next time. With the anti-votes (I am counting comments from you, me and Chip) satire and humor are actually tied.

I found some horror/satire books. They sound fun. Who put humor out there anyway?? This is the apocalypse. There is nothing funny.
I was thinking of The Resurrectionist: The Lost Work of Dr. Spencer Black or The Quorum. Both creepy/satire. But yours sounds good to.
so...uh...Nancy...Are you able to be bribed into satire? :)I will abide by the wishes of the majority. If it is horror, I will probably skip a month and then just haunt the conversation thread :)
But...Gertie, if there is a tie, is there a run-off or does it become moderator choice? Or...a mish-mash where you have to find something that meets both genres?
I have been pondering that this week and have no idea! On one hand, one important aspect of these challenges is for them to be challenging. It isn't just a "assign me a book I will like". On the other hand, most people aren't quite masochistic enough to sign up if they really dislike the topic. So... I dunno. Voting ends tonight so I think we'll tie.Ah screw it, how about we make it for both topics? People can choose one or the other, or get imaginary bonus points by going for a hybrid option. I just think if we choose one, we're automatically scaring off half of our participants. I suppose Horror and Satire are kind of polarizing!
Thoughts?
Gertie wrote: "Thoughts?"Oh...I'm probably game for either topic - I'll just have to add a few more restrictions than I normally would if horror comes out on top.
Do any horror voters want to bribe me to make it a clean victory?
Well, let me ask this, because some of the anti-votes weren't totally clear.Who is OUT if we use the topic they don't like?
It's basically down to Horror and Satire now, in case Jordan and Michael have a preference...
I would read anything. I mean, horror isn't all blood and guts...there is psychological horror, zombies could be considered horror. I like Brian Lumley's vampire novels. They sure aren't sparkly. Its a pretty broad spectrum. I don't like torture porn. Hows that?? Some people might even think that American Psychocould be horror. Night of the Living Trekkiesis scary and funny.
Horror can definitely be psychological. I think those are more scary. Not the blood and guts for the sake of gore. Chip, I cannot be bribed (well, if there was enough wine and chocolate, ....maybe).
Looks like a late switch by a historical fiction person has tipped the scales to horror. Is this the closest vote yet?
Well that settles it then. We'll do horror this time, then next time around I will propose satire and see if we get a decent number of folks. This is fine, it isn't like it has to be the same people every time, right? If you haven't signed up here, you can do so here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
