Well I guess this depends whether or not she's a vampire yet. If not, then she loses, hands down. But an army of immortal vampire Bellas, well....

message 102: by Katie (new)

Katie Mauger I was about to select Hermione, because spells, then I saw Alanna on the list and there was no question. Sorry girls, but Alanna is a shaman with a prodigious magical gift AND an unmatched swordswoman who is trained as a knight. She's never lost a battle as King's Champion, and as much as I love Hermione, Alanna would clean house with her and all these other heroines. Magic + weapons + hand-to-hand combat + military discipline + a war horse = Alanna wins.

Nope, Hermione is not the only one capable of offensive magic. I'd like to introduce you to Alanna the Lioness.

This.

message 106: by Donna (new)

Donna I don't know Alanna but it might be interesting to see Hermione and Alanna fight if both have Magic.

message 107: by Angel (new)

Angel I feel like Tris would win, considering she spends two and a half books killing people. Katniss is way less likely, since she's not as trained with weapons. I wouldn't know about Hermoine or anyone else since I haven't read the others (but there's no way Bella could win, even if there were infinite Bellas).

message 108: by Donna (new)

Donna Hermione is magic and spells and she is brilliant. That beats anything other than more magic, I think. She may not be the most popular but I am not sure what beats magic.

message 109: by S (new)

S L I would have to agree with you, Zeth(message 50). I have only read the J.K. Rowling, Suzanne Collins,Rick Riordan, and the Stephanie Meyers books. So I could only choose between the characters in the books. I went with Katniss, though I probably should have picked Hermione with her spells. Though if it's without magic than definitely Katniss.

message 110: by Mari (new)

Mari I find it amusing that while there is one of everyone else, Bella needs a whole army of herself to even qualify.

message 111: by [deleted user] (new)

Hermoine could just shout avada kedavra at everyone and boom she's won, but everyone else would actually have to kill people and fight by hand

Donna Ineka wrote: "Hermoine could just shout avada kedavra at everyone and boom she's won, but everyone else would actually have to kill people and fight by hand"

Exactly.

message 113: by Hannah (new)

Hannah Martin I said Hermione, I don't know who some of these girls are, but Hermione has freaking magic that can do basically anything. I'm not sure why so many people are saying Katniss.. She has a bow an arrow.. (And nothing against bow and arrows, I love them) but against Hermione.. There really is no chance of winning. Hermione can say 2 words, and boom, dead. And I'm not saying this because of favoritism or anything, it's the truth.

LOL... Exactly my thoughts!

message 116: by Ayah (new)

Ayah whats with everyone calling Hermione a wizard, she's a witch.. And Hermione would win hands down.

message 117: by Donna (new)

Donna Hermione went to wizarding school so they were all wizards, unless a female wizard is called a witch.

Kaitlyn Emily wrote: "Kaitlyn wrote: "Sam wrote: "To me, the answer seems clear based on her gift: Katsa. She literally cannot lose. She may not be my favourite heroine listed, but she has by far the most useful powers ..."

True but she would be screwed with a simple swish and flick of Hermione wand if she just hung there unable to do anything and was in no real danger 10 feet off the ground. Lol but yeah she does have one hell of an advantage when it comes to any actual fight but because of everything Hermione been through id say her survival Instincts are pretty damn good to.

message 119: by Zo (new)

Zo Pfft! "An army of Bellas"... I was tempted to click that simply because it made me laugh. XD

Really though, I think Tris Prior would win- her determination is scary. Much more so than the rest of them.

message 120: by Kim (new)

Kim Arnold Katsa has the survival skills to survive any fight. She wouldn't get in a fight that she could lose, so she wouldn't fight someone who would kill her with magic. But she could just ambush the people that have magic, Alanna and Hermione, and not fight fair.

message 121: by jenn *mother of dragon & snake* (last edited Jun 12, 2015 06:31AM) (new)

jenn *mother of dragon & snake* For magic: Hermione always wins for me.
(HELLO. She sucker punched Draco-wait-till-my-father-hears-about-this-Malfoy.)
For muggles/mundanes: Tris.

And why the FFFFF is Bella on here?

message 122: by Meghan (new)

Meghan Anna wrote: "I feel like Hermione would win IF she really tried, but I also think her morality would get in the way of killing so many people. So I'm gonna go with Celaena."

Definitely- I vote Katniss because she would definitely fight to the death. Hermione is really strong but she'd definitely hesitate to kill if things came down to it.

message 123: by Mari (new)

Mari Sarah wrote: "The Enchanted Book wrote: "Cristie wrote: "All dislike for the girl aside, I'm surprised some people actually picked an army of Bellas. She is a less than average girl who doesn't even have the wil..."

I still think that she would lose, if based on training and experience alone. Bella wouldn't know how to handle herself in a fight the way some of the others can.

message 124: by Donna (new)

Donna Bella could throw up her protective shield but Hermione could spell it gone.

message 125: by Katie (new)

Katie Mauger Donna wrote: "Hermione went to wizarding school so they were all wizards, unless a female wizard is called a witch."

"Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry"
A female with magic is definitely always called a witch in the Harry Potter universe.

Yeah, that'd work with Hermione, but Alanna is also a trained knight. She'd be pretty hard to ambush and defeat even in non-magical combat. Maybe Katsa could survive, but that doesn't mean she'd win. No one said it was a fight to the death. :)

Donna No magic no win

message 130: by Lily (new)

Lily Bella would die if there was a fight I mean vampires, ick!

message 131: by Aly (last edited Jun 12, 2015 03:27PM) (new)

Aly M This is way too hard, Annabeth, Alanna, and Hermione are good but Celaena and Katsa are tied for best I think though I haven't read every book on the list. I have to say I totally agree that an army of bellas would definitely not win she doesn't have any confidence or self respect. I also agree that they would probably join forces rather than battle. (Some of them might have issues with that though....)

message 132: by Donna (new)

Donna Dont know Katsa, Alanna or some of the others but fighting ability alone won't win a battle/fight. Swords, guns and the like, or even special fighting abilities won't win against magic i think.

message 133: by Leisa (new)

Leisa Louisa I think they all have concentrated weapons that are given for them to use to maintain the balance of power.
In each case power is being harnessed by wrongful candidates and thus, elimination isn't a question it's a necessity.

message 134: by Aavelina (new)

Aavelina I'd say tris prior but she's dead. Oops, this one goes to Hermione.

message 135: by K.D. (new)

K.D. Dowdall Divergent (Divergent, #1) by Veronica Roth

Tris wins everytime for her sense of self and critical thinking skills, not brawn, not for glory, but for the greater good.

Same! I love reading about them.

message 139: by Spencer (new)

Spencer Guys, Celaena is an assassin. HER JOB IS TO KILL PEOPLE!! So, anyone's argument, who didn't vote for Celaena, is invalid. :D

message 140: by Donna (new)

Donna Yeah, but what about magic, using spells, pretty much invalidates any fighting abilities, no?

message 141: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra Spencer wrote: "Guys, Celaena is an assassin. HER JOB IS TO KILL PEOPLE!! So, anyone's argument, who didn't vote for Celaena, is invalid. :D"

Quite right. However, Alanna Kel, Tris, Katsa, Katniss; they and others would give her a run for her money. Especially Alanna.

message 142: by Donna (new)

Donna It would be a fight to watch!

message 143: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra Donna wrote: "Yeah, but what about magic, using spells, pretty much invalidates any fighting abilities, no?"

I think the question is about a fight not a 'let's see who's abilities at everything come out top' debate.

And if spells were permitted I think Hermione'd still have a tough time against say Alanna, who's a superb fighter AND has magic.
Or Katsa.
Or Celaena - she's not even all human!

message 144: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra Donna wrote: "It would be a fight to watch!"

yep!

message 145: by Zoë (new)

Zoë I'm basing this on being a fight where people don't use magic, just themselves, so Hermione is not that great of a choice, although Draco's nose wouldn't agree. Truthfully, Rose Hathaway is the best choice: she kills undead creatures on a daily basis and is known to beat people up.

message 146: by Donna (new)

Donna I think the point is to pick the heroines based on their abilities. Hermione's ability is magic. She might not seem like a strong female heroine but she is a witch. They tell me female wizards are called witches, though I like Wizard better. But whatever. Abilities differ. Hers is magic.

message 147: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra Donna wrote: "I think the point is to pick the heroines based on their abilities. Hermione's ability is magic. She might not seem like a strong female heroine but she is a witch. The thing is, they all (except for Alanna and Kel) come from different worlds, with different magic rules/no magic at all. So it's really hard to define 'abilities' because Alanna's magic probably wouldn't exist in our world and Hermione's might not work in Alanna's.
And yes, Hermione does have the ability to use the magic in her world extremely well. But I think that in a fight with about 20 girls all fighting at once she'd be outnumbered, and one of the better fighters would win.

message 148: by Donna (last edited Jun 13, 2015 08:23PM) (new)

Donna Many fighters could cause anyone a problem for sure. They do all have their separate worlds and abilities within those worlds. I don't know the other heroines you mentioned but whatever their abilities in their worlds if you take that ability and put it against another heroine which one wins? I think magic counts because it is Hermione's ability.

message 149: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra Oh - Alanna is a trained knight, an amazing fighter, the King's Champion (best fighter in the land kind of). Plus she's got these random gifts from the Goddess who's this background figure in the series. Keladry is another lady knight in the series.
If you don't know Celaena Sardothien either, she was the most feared assassin in her world for years. Plus (view spoiler).
I assume you know Katniss and Tris?

message 150: by Donna (new)

Donna Yep, I've got Katniss and Tris and Bella. What book is Alanna in?
