Pamela Harju, an award-winning author of musical fiction, spends her spare time with her dogs and travelling to see rock bands most people have never heard of. She loves tea, big old houses and tattooed men. A native Finn, Pamela lives in the Irish countryside in an old cottage that's always threatening to fall apart. She has a full-size dog agility arena in her back garden. ...more

Writing is a lonely job, done scooped up within four walls, so it's important to get out there and live life. For me, that means travelling to wherever my favourite bands' tours take me, taking my dogs for a walk, letting off steam by running on an agility course with the dogs (the ONLY time I run, unless I'm in a real hurry) or just sitting down with a cup of tea to enjoy a good book, a film, a TV boxset or music.(less)

Happy New Year!

After this post, I’m going to take a break from blogging. It’s quite time consuming, and I want to dedicate more time to writing my books. I currently have an overflow of ideas that I want to get down on paper.

I don’t overrule the idea of returning to blogging at some point, perhaps in a different format.

For now, feel free to enjoy my previous posts.

All the best for 2022.

Enjoyable

Time travel is one of my favourite themes, and this took me back to the year I was born. I thoroughly enjoyed the music references. I'll try to remember to look up the rest of the series.

Hmmm

I feel like I enjoyed each book in this series less and less. It got a bit repetitive with similar characters, stories and issues, and I still wanted more of a Christmas feel. In this one, Lucy also came across as hypocrite.

Much the same as the first book

This is light on Christmas, has an abrupt ending and needs another proofread. Cute, but not as much music as I'd have liked.

Cute

I feel like I'm being generous here because a few things bothered me. Firstly, too many minor typos had slipped through. Secondly, there was next to no Christmas in this book. Finally, the ending was rushed.
Yet, I enjoyed this book, and I love wh

The only character I liked was Elijah. Bonnie was an idiot and jumped to conclusions with very little evidence, then took stupid actions without even talking to her boyfriend. Not for me.

Not as Christmassy as I expected based on the title, but good enough. There were a few points where the writing sagged, but overall, an enjoyable book.

“It made him sad, realising that their smell was going to be gone for good one day. Even if they kept all their clothes, the scent would vanish eventually and become only a memory, just like everything else about them. Sometimes he thought he couldn’t even remember their voices anymore. There were photos of course, but it wasn’t the same. Although he had not hugged either of his parents in years, the thought of not being able to do so was too painful to bear, especially when he felt like he needed it. Eventually he would forget what it had felt like to be near his mum or what kind of a presence his father had. They were just going to be names, mere mentions in conversation that were glazed over and didn’t mean much to anybody.”
Pamela Harju, The Truth about Tomorrow

“He was more relaxed this time, more confident. He kept one hand on her waist and the other on the side of her neck. She wanted him to envelop her, to engulf her. She wanted to feel his body all around her, all over her. She wanted to get inside his clothes, inside his body and inside his mind. She wanted him, there was no doubt about it. There was no doubt about him wanting her either. His kisses were passionate and hungry but still had that carefulness about them, as if he worried she might break under his touch or evaporate into thin air. She was more concerned that the lack of his touch might make her implode.”
Pamela Harju, Sympathetic Strings

“It was raining outside. It wasn’t heavy, but it left droplets on the windows, making it look like the window was covered in glitter which gleamed and shone in the candlelight. There was something outlandish about the place. It wasn’t only the grand rooms and the exquisite décor and not even the sheer size of the building; there was more to it. It was a feeling. She felt enveloped in it day and night. It wasn’t unpleasant or choking, but it wasn’t cosy and welcoming either. It was just there, like a straitjacket. She hoped that there could have been a bit more glitter and glamour to her days. She wasn’t exactly a sparkly kind of girl, but she missed… something.”

Laurence Beveridge, Militia of the Lost

“He had not been sleeping well over Christmas. Actually, he hadn’t been doing anything well over Christmas – eating, sleeping, exercising, talking, looking after himself, laughing, crying… No, he hadn’t really been crying despite all the pain he felt. It was just tearing him up inside, quietly. It was like his insides were being ripped up by an angered tiger.”
