4.5* This is the strangest book, but in a really good way! You know when people write 'kept me guessing until the very end' in reviews? This one absolutely did - even at past 90% I had no clue how it was likely to pan out, or how the points of view wo ...more |

This book is an absolute delight, and made me want to go back to the 50s and 60s to live Darlene Foster's childhood! It's unusual for me to give 5 stars to a short book of short stories, but I was completely absorbed by this, an insight into a world ...more

3.5 out of 5 stars I read this via an ARC from the author, for Rosie Amber's Review Team. The fact that it was free has not affected this honest review. This is book 4 in a series; a look back at my reviews tells me that I read and liked Book 1 back in ...more |

A love story set in the Communist USSR of the 1920s, first published in 1936. Rand says it is not a book about the Russian Revolution; this is just the setting. However, from a reader's point of view, it is indeed a novel about just that, expressed t ...more

4.5* I so enjoyed reading these snapshots of D. G. Kaye's life, growing up in the 1960s, 70s and 80s - partly because I discovered that she is just two months older than me, so it's a world I know about ... mostly!* I love the conversational aspect of ...more |

When I started reading this book I thought it might be a bit too 'women's fiction' for me - but I should have known better. Deborah Swift doesn't write cosy schmaltz, but history so real it's like a window back in time. The story, set in 1943, centres ...more |

Victoria, ditto - I can't get used to this comment/message thing, or perhaps you get a notification of a reply to a comment?
Ah, I see! Yes, I read fast, too, but these days so much of my non-writing time seems to be taken up with social networking...! I'm already on the strong glasses...

Lol sorry to take up your newsfeed!! haha, I do alot of my writing quite late on at night or on my days off. I reserve reading for after my shifts at work. I am contantly reading! I cant help it, its my first love :) And I seem to be able to read stupidly fast, probably because I read so much. Sometimes I get through a book in a day if I am really enjoying it lol.
Still I think a book a week is perfectly fine, healthy in fact. Give me a few more years and I am going to need strong glasses and tons of headache pills daily :)
