I'm surprised that Karin Slaughter is not on this list. She is similar to, but much better, than Patricia Cornwell, IMHO. And for those interested in female detective authors, I can't go without mentioning one of my favorite movies: "American Dreamer" in which an American woman suffers a blow to the head and wakes up believing she is a heroine detective of a famous English detective author. Hilarity ensues.
