I'm hearing that it is Say You're One of Them, but I think either The Help or Hotel on the Corner of Bitter & Sweet would be excellent choices too; they were both fantastic books.
Even if Home Repair is not an Oprah book, it really should be. A fabulous read, with a nice mix of the real, the funny and the bittersweet. I get tired of heavy-handed. This one has depth but it's got some humor and lift to it, too. Hard to believe she has not already done The Glass Castle. It would also be a great choice.
Goodbye Natalie Goodbye Splendour by Marti Rulli isn't on the list, so I didn't vote. Good list, though.
My thanks to everyone who lobs in a vote for She-Rain. Theresa, I'm humbled and so grateful to you for including the book here, and for one stellar review!!
Julie and Susanna, if memory serves, I believe this list was created right before Say You're One of Them was announced as Oprah's latest pick. But since that time has now passed, I think the book could be removed and the list will now predict the next Oprah pick.(Irene, if you don't see the book you want already on the list, you can add it by searching for the title in the right-hand column and voting for it.)
I don't know,... the poor economy seems to have everyone focused on the end of the world. The Oprah list seems to align with what is popular. In that genre I would vote for One Second After (Forstchen) or The Passage (Cronin). Two great reads, two different approaches yet both would make great books for the Oprah list.
I'm hoping Oprah will go in a new direction and choose something with some humor and pathos-- but more on the bright side. That's why I'm going with Home Repair, which I loved at all levels and find worthy of re-reading.
