Juanita Gabriel's inferno is also a "unethical fanfiction ripoff".

message 2: by P.D. (new)

P.D. Thanks for the info. What did it rip off?

message 3: by Juanita (new)

Juanita It was a Twilight FF called The University of Edward Masen. I think that if you look it up on google you might find a PDF of the ff.

message 4: by P.D. (new)

P.D. thanks. I will remove it from the Amazon lists. Unfortunately, I can't remove it from goodreads.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads Why has every book but one been removed from this list?

message 6: by P.D. (new)

P.D. they were removed by me in an effort to delete the list. People have been misusing this list. It was started as a group effort. The books on it were recommended by someone other than the author, and were then reviewed by the group. When other people started posting onto the list and asking friends to vote for their posts, the list lost its intent. Not to mention that a lot of the books posted weren't by indie authors. I am contacting Goodreads administration to ask that this list be deleted.

message 7: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Morgan Was there no way to limit the suggested books? Perhaps requesting that ONLY indie books be added?
As far as labeling this list with the phrase to currently read "The quality of writing in the books on this list cannot be trusted." Shame on who ever did that.
It is my understanding that readers could offer suggestions as to books they WANTED on the list... books they felt DESERVED to be included. I would also go on to state that I would hope folks who added books to the list had read the books they added.
To make a blanket statement regarding the quality of writing, something that is subjective to the voters, is an unfair suggestion.
As an indie author with a book on this list, I am very much insulted that 1) You would make such an assumption regarding my book and that of fellow indie authors, 2) that you would make a statement like that regarding ANY book, indie or not, and 3) that you would assume to think readers are, for whatever reason, not entitled to share their opinions on books they have read.
Did I share this list on Facebook? Of course i did. As an Indie author, to hear from folks who have read my book, that they enjoyed it enough to vote it to any list, is incredibly flattering.
Am I to understand that when this list was created, authors included on the list were to remain stoic and silent? That we were NOT to share our happiness with our fans? Fans, I might add, that spend their money on an indie, not of the "BIG 6" publishing houses, books, typically based on the suggestions of their family, friends, and fellow readers?

I am deeply insulted by the remark that the writing in these books is suspect. And shame on whomever would make such a remark.

message 8: by P.D. (new)

P.D. I did that. I started this list. It was the result of a group effort. Books were recommended (not by the author). As a group, we looked over each recommendation and tried to achieve a consensus concerning the quality of the publication. the hundreds of books added to the list on goodreads did not undergo this process, and so we can't vouch for their quality.

Therefore, all of the books on this list are now suspect.

I have written to the administration and asked them to delete the list entirely.

message 9: by rivka (new)

rivka Listopia lists are public. They do not belong to the individual who started them, nor to any one group of Goodreads users.

message 10: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Morgan I'd be curious to learn what factors were used in determining the consensus of the books quality. Was this based on reader reviews, sales figures, whatever?

I hope you cnn understand my perspective. Making generalized statements regarding the quality of a book are, at best, suspect themselves.

Perhaps, should you and the group you refer to above decide to compile a lust such as this in the future, it would best not to share it in a setting that leaves it open for others to add to it?

Frankly, I enjoyed yesterday's list. There are many indie authors out there with so much talent. Books that yes, are better written than 50 , as the list stated yesterday. My apologies that I mistook you purposed list as an opportunity to showcase some of that talent that has been under the radar.

message 11: by Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (last edited Aug 30, 2012 11:03AM) (new)

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads List descriptions can be great places for list creators to describe whether the list is meant to be "open" or "closed" to new suggestions or not, among other things. How else are voters supposed to know what the list creator had in mind?

message 12: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Morgan Mat I suggest this- instead of a blanket statement of the books being suspect, a disclaimer, for lack of a better term, stating that the individual who created the list cannot personally vouch for the books included?

message 13: by willaful (new)

willaful I'm pretty sure this list has transmogrified since I first voted on it. It's now for YA fantasy, and none of the books I voted on are YA fantasies.

message 14: by Grynet (new)

Grynet How on earth did Heat get on a YA list? Love, love, love the book but it has no place on a YA list
