This goes down as one of my favorite books. The imagery is amazing. I immersed myself in this book like I have done a few others. I must read again to get the nuances that I didn't get the first time.

A very long book with literally NO action, because the whole story took place in one hotel in Moscow about one man over a long time. But, it was beautifully written and his life and Russian history draw you in from the beginning! It was a book that I could read, put down while reading another book simultaneously and then go happily back. Different but GOOD!

This book has incredible reviews. I felt it was slightly boring, especially the beginning. It took A LONG time get interesting but by then I wasn't as engaged as I wished I had been. I loved that the main character, The Count, made the most of his life and relationships after being put on "house arrest" in Metropol Hotel.
