A few years ago, I began listening to this book as an audiobook but had to stop because it was taking too long. I'm happy that I finally returned to it. Poignant, elegant and insightful window into a time past through wonderful storytelling and a graceful respect for the subject. Towles is a master at inhabiting a character fully.
Full of interesting and lovable characters. Warm, humorous, touching, inspirational. Add Towles’ impeccable writing and you have a superb book.
This isn't one of my favorite works by Amor, but it's undeniable that he is a wonderful and thoughtful writer. His character development of Count Alexander Rostov had me believing that Rostov is a real guy. I loved his descriptions of Moscow, the Metropol, Boyarsky and all the other places mentioned. And I loved the quote about time and tide waits for no man. Plus the one about parenting.

A great read. I hope they make it into a Netflix show or something. This would make a great show.
