This was a great book! I was a little nervous because so many fellow readers were dnf the book. I love the history of Russia. This author did an amazing job of giving you a Russian history lessen, and a lesson on perseverance. I think I would like to reread it someday when my world is slower. I would also gladly read book two.
This is a love story to Russia, Russia of the time before the Bolshevik revolution...a beautiful fairytale set in the early 20th century, shortly after the fall of the tsars. Russian fairytales are close to my heart as are stories of Russia. The language, the names, the ancient lands, the beauty of her people, all come through in this slowly developing story. I really enjoyed this book and the life the count makes for himself despite his trials he has to overcome. I would have given this five stars but for me, there were some slower parts.
