Moreno-Garcia's "Gods of Jade and Shadow," one of the first books I read of 2020, totally blew me away. Guess you can say my expectations were high for this book.
While the atmosphere and characters were strong, I felt the horror aspects moved too slowly with a large chunk of them happening in quick succession at the end. I wanted to feel the tension earlier in the plot. I also didn't like the repeated threats of rape to the main character. It happened, like, three times? Got to be too much for ...more

3.5 stars. I'm really disgusted by mushrooms which made it all the creepier.

No spoilers here, but I have to say that the best thing about this book is the main character.
It's about TIME I read a horror book... or a book in general... where the woman in it doesn't make stupid moves, stupid decision, or acts... stupid. She stands her ground and protects people. NICE!

It was kind of dragging at the beginning that I considered DNF but it got twisted and ready to explode toward the middle so I decided to give it a chance, it was an interesting twist and ending. It almost sounded though like there would be more stories based on this beginning
