The Oasis is the virtual reality playground where most people of 2044 spend their lives, including teenager, Wade Watts. When the creator of this world dies, he leaves his digital universe to the person who uncovers his hidden Easter egg. Wade and countless other "gunters" are on the hunt, but Wade is the first to unlock one of the clues, changing his life forever.

I'm taking a big step by admitting how much I loved this book. It reveals how much a of a secret geek I am. Ready Player One is exact

Outstanding!!! What a fantastic homage to my childhood. I think I spent as much time googling all the referenced movies and games as I did reading. I definitely have to buy this book strictly for resource material. Can someone build this OASIS already. GEESH!!!

This is by far the geekiest book I have ever read and I loved it so very much. It made me nostalgic for the '80's. Gamer Geek to infinity. This book is definitely in my top three of best loved books that I have read this year. So good. ...more

This book has been raved about for a long time now. The rave reviews lead me to purchasing it but it has been gathering dust on my Mount TBR for months. So, I finally got around to picking it up as I was feeling the need to read something a little different. And so it was.

As many (many) other reviewers have gone into what this is about, I won't go into the plotlines. I have to say all of the 80's references did create a fantastic feeling of nostalgia. The world building was stunning and I thorou

I really really enjoyed this book. I do have to say, I don't think it would be for everyone. Those that enjoy classic video games, and the 80's...SCORE! Total nerd-dom to the max! I thought the story line was captivating and fun. Although, I'm sure the concept of an all-encompassing virtual reality has been done many times before, I enjoyed the way Cline surrounds you in the reality he created through his story-telling. I felt like I was playing the 'Oasis' myself and hope that there is possibly ...more

I listened to the audiobook and liked the narrator's sound effects for pacman and Max's stuttering voice. If not for these sound effects, I would have rated the book 3 stars because most of it was too predictable and calculated and full of geeky 1980's references.
The story line was unique to me and the world-building was different. I enjoyed the attention to detail (Ultraman's fighting stances) but they sometimes made things too obvious (the books falling over in the chat room).
