Both a dystopian future and a nostalgic trip to the 80s. Wade Watts is trying to find the egg in the OASIS that will give him billions of dollars and control over an entire virtual universe. The creator of the OASIS loved the 80s and a plethora of references to pop-culture from the era serve as clues to solving the puzzle. Wade was likable enough (although a bit whiny at times) but I would have liked more time with Aech and Art3mis who were each incredibly interesting in their own right. The vil ...more

I grew up in the 80's and thought I would like all the references
but this book was boring so much so that I could not
finish it.
Update-
Actually I finally finished it ! If you grew up geek in the coming-of-age of computers and video games you might love this book. I had an Atari played and I was even not horrible at asteroids BUT I was not a D&D type geek so maybe that is why I did not love this one as so many others
did.
