This book is one long experiment with the purpose of discovering the meaning of human intelligence and awareness. It is easy to sympathize with the characters, who are admirable but also introspective outcasts. The plot moves quickly and maintains interest. The existential themes of individual morality and identity make for a serious tone in the narration. Any interruption in the pathos of the characters is explicitly framed as a break to allow them to bear more hardship.

With the release of the movie, I decided to re-read this book. It's been forever since I first read and loved Ender's Game, and despite the passage of time, this is still a compelling 5 star read! ...more
