What Members Thought
Wow, this ticked a lot of my boxes. It gave me a lot to think about (hey, cloning plus lost memories always brings out those sticky identity issues); it was part murder mystery, part locked-room thriller, part identity farce, and part dark dystopic SF (a lot of parts up in here); and all of the narrators were unreliable as hell. This book has made it into the nominations of the Hugo and Nebula so it's clearly ticking a lot of boxes for a lot of other people, too.

more like a 3 and a half but hey! round up.
A totally fun sci fi mystery. The world Mur Lafferty built honestly held more appeal to me than the mystery, which fell into place for me earlier than I would have liked, BUT!! still..a majorly fun, pretty fast read.
I kind of, sort of hope there is a future return to this world, although it doesn't really leave room for a sequel, it doesn't close the door on it either, (weird statement there, but true) ...more

It's a murder mystery, six people alone in a space ship (seven if you count the AI) are murdered; when their clones awaken, their most recent memories, including the murders, are gone...
It's an examination of possible societal changes when you can transfer your consciousness, and your property, to your clone when you die...
It's a consideration of revenge and redemption
Includes some really stupid laws for cloning but justifies them with politics. ...more

4.5 stars. This was great fun - a locked room mystery set on a spaceship populated by clones. Not only are you trying to figure out whodunit, but you’re walked through all the fascinating moral and ethical questions and ramifications that come with cloning humans. I have some questions about some of the moral implications of decisions made toward the end, but...On the whole, this book does all the things great science fiction should!
I really liked the world building and the moral questions about cloning, although the author wasn't as interested in that stuff. I kept forgetting about the mystery, so it was a bit of a surprise to me when they solved it.

Murder mystery in space with clones. Lots of good scifi classic questions come up regarding ethics, faith, and humanity. Seeing it all come together was quite fun.
