What Members Thought
I've been meaning to read this book for a long time. I came upon this 2000 Mariner edition at an airport ... and loved it!
Such a complex story about perceiving the world around us, the good, the bad, the incomprehensible. The Little Prince is between naïve observer and worldly sage. And the narrator's transition from incredulity, to nascent comprehension, to heart-breaking realization brings the reader right along with him.

"The Little Prince" by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry is a timeless novella that has touched the hearts of many readers and this evening, I decided it was time to finally read my own copy.
Its poignant themes and profound insights evoked a range of emotions in me, particularly sadness.

The narrator is a pilot whose plane has crashed in the Sahara desert. With nobody to help him, he has 8 days to fix his plane as that is how long his water will last. He is approached by the strange little prince who asks him to draw him a sheep. Little by little, the narrator comes to know of the prince’s story – his journey to different planets, his encounters with the inhabitants of the said planets and that one unique rose on his own planet.

I love this book. I've read it in both English and the original French, and it never fails to make me cry. I quote from it. I've read it out loud to all the children in my life. I recommend it to anyone who will listen. I go back to it at least once a year. This short, whimsical tale is infused with wisdom and warmth and is as close to perfect as a book can be.
