"It doesn't matter if you are monster or human. Living hurts."

What an amazing story. This is a story about humanity - what it means to be a monster and what it means to be human. But the thing that makes Victoria Schwab's story telling so much more than that is the characters. Fully flushed out and fully real, they are always amazing with their flaws and traits.

We have Kate - who is exactly as Vicotoria Schwab was as a 17 year old (she told us today at the Decatur Book festival). She unapologet

5.5 stars!!!

“Monsters, monsters, big and small,
"They're gonna come and eat you all.
Corsai, Corsai, tooth and claw,
Shadow and bone will eat you raw.
Malchai, Malchai, sharp and sly,
Smile and bite and drink you dry.
Sunai, Sunai, eyes like coal,
Sing you a song and steal your soul.
Monsters, monsters, big and small,
They're gonna come and eat you all!”

Now, I have been hearing so many good things about Victoria Schwab’s popular “Monsters of Verity” series and I just had to pick this series up as so

Great feast for the dark mind

A feast of evil, an unordinary couple, kids growing up too soon or too fast in the age of monsters and dark minds. I loved the world created by Schwab and I got really immersed into the world of Verity. Or rather the world where Kate and August found and almost lost each other. Beautiful character development and compelling story telling. I only found the first half a bit slow, otherwise I am grateful to have finally read this first volume and eager to continue with

What an interesting and terrifying concept. I am sad to see this book end. I can’t wait to see what the next books holds for Kate and August.

There were a lot of parts of this book that felt very familiar to me. Teen girl and monster boy are forced to travel together to escape the bad guys and begin to fall for each other despite the one's monstrous nature. Sometimes the boy is a vampire, sometimes the boy is a fallen angel, and sometimes the boy is a demon monster (like in this book). Because this is a familiar trope, there was not a lot surprising in this book. Despite this, it was fun reading. I liked the characters and the world b ...more

This was a want to read based on the cover. The story was interesting, but I think the concept was more interesting. I am not sure that I will finish the series.
The idea of what they did with the Harkers was interesting. Would have liked to see that built upon more.

There's more to say, but I'm on day 9 of being sick, so I want to say it some other time.

I liked the concept a lot. But I wanted so much more to happen. it is fast paced which I like but I wanted more to be revealed.
