Please ignore my rating. If you love magic realism - please, give this one a try. I'm sure you'll love it.
I've gotten a horrible habit the last year or so of only reading a book based on the book cover. I know, I know, it would be so much easier and so much more fun if I'd just read a synopsis every now and then but I find that they ruin a plot or give too much away sometimes. and sometimes the mystery is part of the fun

Trigger Warnings: Murder, Rape, Assault, Child and Spouse Abuse, lots of death and violence
Obviously given the trigger warnings, parts of this book are rough. It made me feel physically ill reading those pages. However, it wasn't without warning as the book had been alluding to a horrific scene coming for a while and as nauseating and completely despicable it was, I handled it ok and actually felt it kind of fit with the book. I wish it hadn't been so graphic, but given the author's way of writi ...more

The world created by Leslye Walton, largely the house on Pinnacle Lane, is a magical haven, a false secure place or a house of cards ready to crumble at the first firm touch from the real world. This is a heart-breaking story, with so many elements of beautiful wonder and sheer cruelty at the same time, I found it a bit forced.
Ava is the picture of innocence, a girl just wanting to be like everyone else. She doesn't want her wings. She wants to be normal. It was so touching and comforting that ...more
