First, I have to say that I find it odd that when I first read this book, having been reading books in this genre for only 9 years, I didn't rate it higher than 3.5-stars. I honestly really liked it - it was a solid start to a series that I will definitely be reading more of.

The characters were great. Lily is a breath of fresh air in the UF world, I think - she's smart, loyal yet independent, and has a strong sense of right and wrong that she is unwilling to compromise. She's also not inherently super-powered. I suspect that her abilities will grow, but for the most part, Lily has her wits and her training to carry her through, and can't rely on magic to save the ...more
