Woo-hoo! Vlad's book! Can't wait.

The highly anticipated Once Burned by Jeaniene Frost did not disappoint. I was expecting great things, after all this is The Vlad Tepesh aka Vlad the Impaler. There’s got to be a great story here, right? Ms. Frost delivers a great story. I was not completely awed by it; I felt that the ending was a little rushed. However, as a summer vacation book, it was a great escape read and who could ask for anything more?

Update: Surprisingly, the second book of this series is really freaking good!

This type of heroine makes it very hard for me to respect her.

I can't take this "Oh he's bad for me but I just can't resist" bullshit anymore. Make up your mind, woman! Say "You can't have me!" all you want but stick to it please. Don't give in at his slightest touch.

Is that too much to ask from a female character nowadays?

After the last couple of lackluster books about Cat and Bones, I didn't have super high expectations for Vlad and Leila, but they brought back the love for sure. This book reminded me of the first couple Cat and Bones stories in a good way - a lot of snark and chemistry between a strong-headed female and a studly old vampire.

I really enjoyed reading about Leila and Vlad. There are already so many kick-ass heroines out there, but Leila holds her own and I'm already a fan. She's strong, loyal, and ...more

It wasn't Bones & Cat good, but it was pretty close.
I really enjoy Frost's writing, it's just so light and easy to read, always funny, witty and sexy.
We get to see Vlad in a new light here and I loved him as a main character!, Leila is a wonderful choice for Vlad, she's strong and not a pushover at all.
I always liked Vlad whenever he showed up in the Night huntress series and am happy to see he got someone too.
