This was my favorite Harry Dresden book so far. But, oh, the cliffhanger! I need to read the next book right away, but I have a few books to finish before I can. I think I'm going to be a junkie waiting for my next fix between now and Friday!

From the very first sentence we are thrown into the action. And this book has all the action we have come to expect from a Harry Dresden book. The people who should help Harry won't. (view spoiler) The people who do help him are ...more

SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!!

Bahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She's dead! She's finally dead! *does happy dance on the table* Susan is gone! Life is wonderful! Thank you, Oh Magnanimous Butcher, for this blessing you have bestowed upon us. May we never hear about her sorry hide again!
However, Dresden is also dead. For now at least. That does not make me happy. However, the next book has come out. My rage on this matter can wait until then. At least I won't have to wait to find out what happe ...more

Wow. Just wow.
Jim Butcher just completely changed the game, raised the stakes and left no bridge unburned.
If you left the series because you felt it had gotten stuck, pick it back up, because it's definetely worth it.

I’m in the minority here, but I guess I’m just getting tired of Harry’s patronizing witty dialogue at inappropriate times. Given everything he’s been through I am finding it hard to believe he is still acting like an immature child. However, this was not my reason for disliking the book. Susan and Maggie’s situation was tied up a little too conveniently and I was finding it hard to believe that Harry all of sudden figured everything out. Wow. I feel like I've just gotten off some crazy ride. That book was intense and the name was perfect as just about everything changes for Harry.

What I enjoyed:
* Mouse. He had his biggest role yet.
* Getting some closure on some story threads that have been hanging around for awhile.
* Murphy is seriously awesome.
* Poor Harry, he always gets in over his head, and he had to make some really tough decisions this time around.

What could have been better:

For long time fans of this series, all I can say is that you will be hooked from the first sentence, because it changes Harry's life irrevocably. If you are new to the Dresden Files (or saw the TV series), start at the beginning. As for my review of this book - wow. ...more

I can only say Wow. It's impossible to review this without spoilers since the title sums it all up - it truly is a complete game changer. I will say that even though I knew the ending, Butcher still managed to surprise me. Every time I thought I had it figured out the rug was pulled out from under me. But in the end it couldn't have happened any other way. Just wow.

PS - Sometimes I think I over identify with Murphy because I'm also small, blonde and feisty. But in this book, Murphy kicks even mo ...more
