The reason why I enjoy Jim Butcher's Harry Dresden series is that each book is jammed packed full of "stuff." What do I mean by "stuff?" It's all the creatures, magic, mythology, and action all thrown in one book. So much happens in this book and I can always count on Harry's unique way of deal with adversity (and adversaries). I think these books work because they capture the gritty world of city life and juxtapose it with the paranormal. Chicago makes such a great backdrop to this world.

I didn't like this one much honestly. I think I just really can't stand Susan, and wasn't too impressed she popped back up. I managed to listen to the entire book in a night, and while the narrator is still super awesome - the actual story is one I will probably totally forget within a month. Continuing on with the series, but only when I need a fluff, mindless sort of listen or need them for a challenge. ...more

Harry manages to once more almost get killed, almost getting everybody killed, not really winning, but also preventing the end of the world.
And that is what makes this books so enjoyable, the options might be all bad, but Harry somewhat manages to always find the one he can live with.
The entire business with Susan is given a bit of closure which is good for Harry.
