The fifth book in the Gin Blanco series finally puts to bed the underlying story arc of the Spider vs. Mab Monroe. Although I didn't mind this particular continuing plot I am glad that it is finally at a close and am looking forward to what is in the future for a retired (semi-retired?) assassin.

Aaaaaaaaah! Finally some big resolutions for Gin! I loved this installment - tons of action, badass lady fighting, new powers showing through, and lots of new information too. This was so satisfying and feels like a fresh start for almost everyone in the series. I would give it 5 stars but I just can't with the repetitive writing. Seriously, we know where she carries her knives by now. We know about the scars. WE KNOW. lol

***4.5***
I really do love this series.
This is an excellent wrap-up to the revenge arc of the series (and I was very excited to hear that it isn't a wrap-up of the series as a whole). All the threads tie together, and every piece slots together exactly as it should.
My one complaint, which is going to sound rather petty, is that the pieces fit together just a little bit too well. By which I mean, nothing in this book surprised me. It played out like... watching one of the classics unfold (Gin mak ...more

Gin Blanco is my badass hero. She'll smile, take your order for a pulled pork BBQ sandwich with baked beans and cole slaw, and then calmly slit your throat as the assassin the Spider. She balances running a busy restaurant in a shady part of town, reuniting with a long-lost baby sister who's also a cop, starting a new romance with a local hottie kazillionaire, and blood feuding with the Ashland's crimeboss, Mab Monroe. Oh, and she also audits literature classes at the local community college. La

I'm only about 40 pages in and I'm already having troubles! I really enjoy the story in this series, but I just don't like all of the "very comprehensive" recapping that takes place throughout the books. I understand that this will help alleviate confusion for those who read the books out of order, but, ugh! I really hope that I can muddle through that part and get to enjoy the story - I want to see how this goes with Mab!:)
