The first title in her Dark Powers YA series, which is set in her Otherworld universe. The book is centered on a group of teens forced to reside at Lyle House – a care home for troubled youth. Lyle House is a great setting for developing tension as the idea of being placed in a mental institution where you’re the only one who thinks you’re sane, is quite creepy. This books introduces us to a younger generation of supernaturals. Still existing in the same world Armstrong created in her Women of the Otherworld series, it focuses on a group of individuals brought together under the guise of a group home, Lyle House, for troubled/mentally ill teens. I am not really sure what to say about this book at the moment. I liked it - and I like most of the characters. A few things caught me by surprise and a few things didn't. Since it, in my opinion, so abruptly ends, I think I need to reserve any judgement until I read the next book. The only think I will say is that some of the dialogue I found myself skimming, and for me, that's a sign that the dialogue isn't very good. Surprisingly, this was pretty decent as a young adult novel. The ending though left at a drop off point just making me want to claw my face and rip my hair out in extreme frustration.
