This series just keeps on delivering. Spider has to deal with a new assassin in town looking to kill her.

What I enjoyed:
* Gin. She is an interesting character with lots of insecurities about relationships. She will do anything to protect those she cares for. And while she is extremely good at what she does, she isn't infallible, but luckily she can use her brains or support group to get out of most situations.

It's been awhile since I read the last book, so I forgot how annoyingly repetitive the writing is. And because I'm a nerd like that, here are a couple numbers for you:

sloppy or sloppy, sloppy, sloppy = 11
context: being sloppy will get you killed
silverstone knives/knife = 54
ex: palming the silverstone knife, insert silverstone knife into sleeves, running thumb on hilt of silverstone knife
eyes = we've got blue, green, violet, black, toffee, buglike, brown, grey, all the colors of the rainbow. Then It's been awhile since I read the last book, so I forgot how annoyingly repetitive the writing is. And because I'm a nerd like that, here are a couple numbers for you:

And there were other phrases which seemed to be taken directly from previous books, reminiscent of The Babysitters Club books, where the first couple chapters were all the same recap of the characters. But I digress.

The story took a while to really get going, but once it did, I was completely engrossed in what was happening. Gin has decided to take out Mab Monroe and her crew and is offing the minions one by one. Mab gets annoyed and hires an assassin to kill the Spider, one with elemental magic to rival Gin's. There are some cool elemental powers coming into play in this one, and despite all the silverstone knives, Gin is growing more comfortable using her powers to kick villain butt, which is fun to see.

When not going around assassinating the bad guys and saving the innocent, Gin's trying to figure out her relationship with Owen and her baby sister Bria. Regarding Owen, he seems to be really good for her, so yay on that count, their relationship is developing nicely. Gin still hasn't told Bria who she is, questions whether or not her sister will accept her, yada yada, same old. But on the bright side, we learn a lot more about what happened the night Mab killed Gin's family. <-- A lot of questions answered, and a few questions raised. I really like the way the over-arcing story is unfolding, seems to be pretty well thought out and can't wait to see what happens in the next book!

So writing and slow start aside, this probably would've been a 5 star book.

Dang. I wanted to love this installment, but other people pointed ou6t the repetitiveness and that just ruined it for me, because it's true. I don't know how many times we heard how surprised she was that the Ice was coming to her so easily, or how Owen's eyes held nothing but acceptance, or so many other details. I did like how this book was a bit more concise on the fights. I usually just end up skimming the fights, but I actually read this one. I also liked the relationship developments. So t ...more

This was another amazing entry into the world of Gin. I love how the characters are constantly evolving. The author is constantly adding a new layer to the story. This is a fantastic series where each book is better than the last. Highly recommend it !!
