I liked this one more than I thought I would.

Cat's latest enemy is one that she has no idea how to defeat, Heinrich Kramer, a ghost. Kramer, who was an inquisitor who burned women as witches when he was alive, has somehow managed to continue doing the same as a ghost. When the ghost of one of the women he killed comes to Cat to ask for help defeating him, Cat and Bones cannot refuse their help, and that's how Cat ends up in Kramer's cross-hairs herself.

3.5 stars. Concept of villain was cool, Heinrich Kramer, author of The Malleus Maleficarum, witch hunter in life and now a powerful poltergeist. How do you kill a ghost? He's so powerful that he takes human form on Halloween.

BUT lots of monologuing by woman-hater Kramer, waiting around and petty fights with Cat's old squad, especially the new leader, Madigan. Just not one of the better books in the series, so no rounding up to 4 stars.

I forgot what happened in the previous book.
I think the reason Cat and Bones are no longer like they used to be comes from the fact they are now married. Before, they used to argue and there was that tension there that was fun to read. Now, they get along and everything seems "rosey."
This newest adventure involves calling on the resources of past characters to help solve the problem at hand. And how convenient was it for them to be there to help. If you read the previous books, including the boo ...more

I enjoyed this book, but not as much as previous installments. I think the fact that the main conflict didn't directly involve Cat and her well-being made it less memorable. Yes, she does become directly involved and the whole cast of lovable characters is around for the ride but it just didn't connect as well as some of the other novels from this series. Still a great, fun read that I would recommend though. ...more
