WOW WOW WOW WOW!!!!!!!!! Can that be my whole review of this book??? This book was amazing! I didn't want it to end! It is the best I've read so far in the series. It just had it all!

At first I'll admit I was PISSED at Curran because I thought he stood up Kate for that naked dinner she owed him. Then she's called in to investigate the deaths of shifters. But things only get more complicated from there when this investigation brings Kate face to face with her own family.

I loved it so, so, SO much! Every moment, every scene, every line. Everything! Even the mythology was spot on this time. That Erra was nasty. It’s hard to believe she’s related to Kate. Ugh.

I've never been an uber-fan of this series. All the elements I love in a UF are present - kick-ass heroine with a sarcastic streak, engaging action-packed story, and probably one of the my favorites in terms of world-building, but I wasn't going to jump up and down in excitement over the books. This book may have changed my mind about the series.

No matter how carefully I patted the chopped apples into place, the top crust of my apple pie always looked like I'd tried to bury a dismembered body under it.

Kate lost a bet with Curran and agreed to serve him dinner in nothing more than her undies. Imagine her surprise and rage when he stands her up. Determined to carry on, Kate throws herself into work at the Order of Knights of Merciful Aid and plots Curran's demise. A call to check out a fight at the Steel Horse, a bar at the edge of territory between Pack and the People, reveals that a true evil has come to Atlanta. The loser of the fight has been skewered and exhibits evidence of a contagious disease. And a demon hound is holed up in the basement. Kate rescues the pitiful poodle while PAD cleans up the murder scene. This is just the first crime scene and they all seem to be leaving messages for Kate.

This series gets better with each book. I will confess that I did not like the first book in the series when I read it years ago. I went back and read it after falling in love with the next book.

We are discovering more about Kate's family and the true evil that lives in them. She must use all of her energy to keep them from destroying the Pack and Atlanta as a whole.

The addition of the poodle made Kate more human. The fact that she can't come up with a name for him is amusing and carries on throughout most of the story.

Kate's first meeting with Curran after he stood her up is priceless. She directs all of her statements to Jim as she was instructed via a phone call to the Keep. Truly a woman scorned! A "date" with Saiman almost pushes Curran to the limit of his control. The resulting showdown between Kate and Curran is epic. I can't wait to see where this will lead.

This installment of the series is filled with blood. So much so that had I not known there were additional books I would have feared this was the last. I want to see where the politics of the shifters and the rules of the Order take Kate. I'm sure that it will be a bumpy ride.

Though 'Magic Bleeds' could be read as standalone, you miss out on a lot of world building and character development, which adds a great deal to your enjoyment of the novel. For best effect read the first three novels in Ilona Andrews's 'Kate Daniels' series - in order they are, Magic Bites, Magic Burns and Magic Strikes. There are some companion novellas, but you can get away without reading them in the main sequence.

It took me the first two books to truly warm to Kate and Curran and the third Though 'Magic Bleeds' could be read as standalone, you miss out on a lot of world building and character development, which adds a great deal to your enjoyment of the novel. For best effect read the first three novels in Ilona Andrews's 'Kate Daniels' series - in order they are, Magic Bites, Magic Burns and Magic Strikes. There are some companion novellas, but you can get away without reading them in the main sequence.

It took me the first two books to truly warm to Kate and Curran and the third book to want them to get their act together and make it as a couple. Luckily there are some great book reading friends out there that inspired me to stick it out through the first two novels. By the end of 'Magic Strikes' I believed in the potential they had as mates and by the end of 'Magic Bleeds' I was totally in love with the idea of them as a couple.

Although both Kate and Curran have elements of the typical 'feisty and opinionated female, meets gruff and possessive alpha male', the characters are more well rounded than many PNR protagonist relationships. This is in part due to the long courtship over four novels, which allows the authors (A husband/wife writing team) to spend time developing and sharing the characters and easing them into a deeper relationship. It's also because they are more realistic, neither bows down to the other and true compromise is exhibited on both sides to make a relationship work. Many authors attempt this, but few succeed in portraying it authentically, with the female character more often than not capitulating to the male. I think the male/female writing team helps to create realistic characters of both sexes who are flawed, but lovable, courageous and yet full of pride and fear. This goes for the secondary characters as well as the 'alpha pair'.

It's a well paced, nicely written, great story, but best read as part of the series. It has lovable characters you want to see get a happy ever after, even if you know they will have more to face in the sequels!

Still amazing on a re-read

Wow, that was a lot of angst and action! Can't wait for the next one.

What I enjoyed:
* The interaction between Kate and her friends. Kate is continuing to grow as a person and learning to let others in.
* Kate. I love how she protects those she cares about even when the odds aren't in her favor. She makes some major decisions in this book that will definitely have repercussions going forward. I also like how she figured out the weakness of the main villain and exploited a ...more

Another good book in the Kate Daniels series. I couldn't get into the plot at first, hence the lower rating. Magic Bleeds shows how much Kate has grown, and the slowly developing relationship between her and Curran is lovely to behold. ...more

Great great book, it kept me on edge and asking for more.
Curran took his time showing up, wich just made it so much better. I think this was Kate's best book, it was funny, sweet, romantic, sexy... and Curran, oh my!... Curran...
