Growing up Jacob Portman looked forward to his Grandfather Abe's stories and photos about his life during WWII. As Jacob becomes a teenager he finds that his grandfather's stories are fake without a shred of truth to them. This was a bit of a slow start but once I got into the plot it was easy to forgive the long buildup to the peculiar children for which the book is named. I enjoyed the story for what it was, although I was a bit disappointed in the ending. All that build up should have led to more action. This easily could have been a longer more statisfying read. But for what it is, it a fun YA read with a unique twist on the paranormal genre that's so popular. ...more

First 100 pages got me bored but it picked up phase as soon as Jacob made it into the island. The story is amazing as thank God, it didn't dwell much on the love angle. I firmly believe this has a book 2 as I am dying to know what happened to the kids and Miss Peregrine, and oh yes, the dad too :) Cheers to the author! :) ...more
